Our Story
Construction of the facility consisting of 7000 square feet began in March of 2006 and was completed in December of 2006. In January of 2007, the first patient was treated. In the spring of 2009, Syracuse Radiation Oncology began the construction of a second vault which houses Varian’s renown “Trilogy”. The Trilogy allows Syracuse Radiation Oncology to add stereotactic radiosurgery to its available options for cancer treatment. The Trilogy was brought into clinical use November 2009.
Syracuse Radiation Oncology offers a complete integrated Varian package. Varian is the leader in the radiation market. The Varian treatment machine delivers IGRT, or “image-guided radiation therapy”, which refers to the use of diagnostic images to guide the radiation beam. IGRT is used in conjunction with IMRT, or “intensity modulated radiation therapy”, which refers to the intensity of the radiation dose. The combination of the two, IGRT and IMRT allows for increased doses of radiation targeted specifically to the tumor, which reduces the side effects to normal tissues and ultimately results in higher cure rates.
The Varian integrated package includes the medical information component, Eclipse treatment planning component and the radiation delivery component. The components work together seamlessly to guarantee the most accurate and consistent dose of radiation to the tumor.
